Start Using Google+ Custom URL while it's FREE

As I have remembered when I first started using Google+ it was about a lengthy address to my account. But that didn't bother me at all, I don't know with you.

However, as I opened my email, I was greeted with the notification regarding a custom URL. And of course I got a bit giddy about it because it sounds amazing to try this new offering from Google.

So here are the things that I have done to get started with Google+ Custom URL:

1. First and foremost log in to your Google+ account and head on to your Profile which can be found at the left corner of your menu. Or if you have opened your email first just click on Get URL button that is found in the email.

2. There would be a banner like notification on your profile then hit the Get URL button, this would appear if you are eligible to have a custom URL.

Eligibility Issues

But how do we become as an "Eligible"? Simple!

If you are an Individual User like me all you have to do is to have:

• Ten or more followers
• Your account should be 30 days old or above
• And your Profile should include your profile photo

If it's for Local Google+ page, it must be:

• A verified local business

And if it's for Non-Local Google+ page, it must be:

• Linked to a website, for more information refer to this guidelines from Google

3. The next thing that would appear would be the suggestions or approved custom URL for the said account. There would be some instances that it would let the owner add few letters or numbers to make their URL completely unique.

4. Simply click on the box for the "I agree to the Terms of Services" with or without reading the Terms of Services, but for our benefit as users it's always safe to read those terms. And hit that Change URL button.

5. For more security purposes(as always) users will also be asked to verify the account using their mobile. You would need to enter your mobile number to a message box then hit on Send Code.

6. Just wait for a second or two and then check your phone for the code that has been sent.

7. After receiving the code, enter it in the box on your screen and click on Verify.

8. Almost done! Just a reminder, once approve users cannot request to change their custom URL which would be the link to their respective Google+ Account. So be very certain if that's what you really want. So when you're done deciding then hit that Confirm Choice button.

9.Voila! It's no numbers anymore but more specific and easy to remember URL for your Google+ Profile. Which looks great and awesome. Why not try it yourself? Enjoy :)

Reminder from Google+:

"Custom URLs are free for now, but we may start charging a fee for them. However, we will tell you before we start charging and give you the choice to stop participating first."

That's good to know that Google would at least inform the users if the service is no longer free. For now lets enjoy this custom URL for a free of charge(At the Moment).
