How to Create Form Using Google

Tuesday, October 15, 2013

It does sound tiring when we create a survey by asking people one by one and doing a manual copy and paste work for the data. What if we can do it by just letting them answer a simple form where they only need to click and choose options? And as always Google has an answer for that.

Google Form is a very useful and helpful tool for those people who would conduct surveys or simply collecting information. It is easy to use and doesn't require any programming skills to create a very thorough form. The number of people who would be able to answer or access the form is not an issue at all.

How do we create a form in Google?

1. Access Account

Log in to Google Drive.

2. Choose Google Drive

If you are logged in with another Google Product then look for Drive tab that is found at the top menu bar or if you have the updated look of Google products it is found at the upper right most corner with their app icon.

3. Google Drive Dashboard

Hit Google Drive icon and it will be then redirected to Google Drive dashboard. Click on Create at the left corner of the screen and choose Form.

4. Lets Get Started

A new window will appear for Google Form, hit Get Started.

5. Choose Form Title and Theme

This is the part where we can set the title of the form and theme can also be applied depending on what type of survey we're doing. With this example I will name the form as Test and will choose Argyle theme.

6. Create Relevant Questions

Now this will be the part that we would input questions and the required answers, to have the desired outcome. Form Description box can be left empty and so with the Help Text box, Question Title is where to input the first question for the survey. In Question Type there are different options to choose from, such as text, multiple choice, checkboxes and so on depending of what type of answer should be chosen. For this sample form I have chose multiple choice for an answer of yes or no. Then hit Done.

7. Add another Question

If user would want to add another item then just click on Add Item which would contain the text boxes for another set of questions.

8. Add Editors

If there are people who would also want to add or edit the form then hit on file then click Add Collaborators. Then share the link to them or simply add their emails.

9. View Form

Forms can be viewed by clicking on View live form at the top menu bar.

10. Send Form

Before sending the form to the respondents there are some setting that might change. Respondents can just answers the form or they can also see the results or edit the form. It depends on the specification that the owner sets.

11. Done

Hit on Done button, form may also be shared in social media such as Facebook, Twitter and Google+.

12. Response

If somebody responded to the form it will show at the top menu that says Responses, if you hit Choose response destination then this is where the spreadsheet comes. This would be the destination of the gathered data.

13. Data

Now this would be the look of the result in a spreadsheet.

If you will be doing any surveys in the future you might as well use this tool for an easier way of gathering data and besides Google is giving it for free. Enjoy.
