Saturday, October 12, 2013

Do you want to learn WordPress? Do you want to venture in something like creating your new website? And you're planning to use WordPress, but before anything else if you need to learn WordPress then you have to download and install it for you to explore it yourself. And now here's a complete guide for all of you who would want to do it on your localhost.

Here are the steps on how to install WordPress locally:

1. Download WordPress

You may download WordPress at wordpress.org. Hit that download button.

2. Download XAMPP

You should also need to download XAMPP since WordPress would need a web server like Apache. You may refer here for the step by step way on downloading and installing XAMPP.

3. Extract WordPress.

Extract the downloaded WordPress to a specific location that you would choose.

4. Copy Files

Copy WordPress files or the WordPress folder to XAMPP htdocs directly. After successfully transferring the files you may also change the name of the folder just for organizing files sake, you may name it as the name of you site.

5. Turn XAMPP on

Now its time to turn on your XAMPP. Then go to your browser and type localhost/phpmyadmin. If that doesn't work type localhost first there should be a XAMPP index page shown then add the phpmyadmin in the browser.

6. Database

Hit the Databases tab, it is located at the top side of the page.

7. Create Database

Now create your own Database, any name would be fine just be sure that you can remember it.

8. Create Configuration File

After creating a database open a new tab and run the install by typing localhost/(name of the WordPress folder that you have transferred to htdocs earlier) earlier. example: localhost/technologyscavenger. And hit Create a Configuration File.

9. Lets Go

After hitting Create Configuration File button you will be redirected to this page, just hit Lets Go button.

10. Set Database Details

Now you have to set your database details. Change the Database Name with the one that you created earlier. Change also the Username to root since it is the default username of WordPress. Just leave Password text box empty while leaving Database Host and Table Prefix boxes as it is.

11. Run the Install

You're almost done, you will see this page then hit the Run the Install button.

12. Set Log in Details

Fill the text boxes with the needed Log in information, you may use a dummy email for this one. Be sure to remember your username and password since you will use it later for logging in your installed WordPress. Search indexing doesn't affect your site if you are running it to your localhost. Click on Install WordPress.

13. Log in

Now this page would show if it has been a success installation of WordPress. Lets try to log in by clicking on Log in .
